Kimberwood Farm

Shetland Sheep, Emily, Tru & Rabb our Border Collies,
and all my various knitting projects.

We made it back!

Our trip to Michigan went well. I had a wonderful time visiting with Stephen and Bill S. while they were very busily getting Sheltering Pines ready for winter. I did try to help a bit but when they started on the roof of the wool shed I went inside to knit...

James and Charlie(Charlemange) are here waiting for my husband to get home to be unloaded. James is quite the pistol! He is quite spirited and very large. He also likes to jump straight up in the air while he is being led by the horns. That is why we are waiting for Bob to help unload them!

Speaking of knitting, I began a beautiful grey shetland wool scarf using a pattern Stephen has loaned me. It's a Fiber Trends pattern called "Paws to Remember". I'm using some of Stephen's own hand spun yarn. Here is a pic of what it will look like:

I know, I know, yet another project on the needles. I think I'll follow Sheperdchik's example and make a commitment to finishing some of my UFO projects! I know I also have some I've quit working on simply because I don't like them any more. I'll keep you posted!

Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs)

This is Henry and Sweetie with their new paddock mates. Having a guardian living with the flock can be a very good thing. Good when they protect the flock from intruders like stray dogs or coyotes. It can also be a very bad thing when they themselves turn on your flock. Henry likes to chase the sheep and when he catches one will pull the wool from them.

Sweetie is younger and has caused much more damage. Again she was "playing" but ended up hurting poor Derry so much so that she has had to live in our garage under a heat lamp just to keep warm. Derry has very little wool left on her body and couldn't keep warm. She also had cuts and tears all over her poor little body. This happened about 6 weeks ago and Derry is going to make it. She is doing much better. This is why Henry and Sweetie have new paddock mates. Hopefully these adult rams will teach both of them some respect for the sheep. So far so good......

New Rams!!

I'm heading to Michigan right after Thanksgiving to pick up two new rams I've bought from my friend Stephen at Sheltering Pines. They are both F1, one is a mioget Jamie son and the other is a katmoget Roban Dillon son who has abherrent horns.

Northwind James
(F1 Jamie)

SheltrgPines Charlemange
(F1 + = 62.5% UK Dillon/Holly/Timothy)

Great additions to my flock! I've already added them into my breeding groups plan. I'll also be using another F1 ram sired by Island Skeld this year. His mother is double F2 which makes him 75% UK! We have two spotted rams on the agenda as well as a polled Gallifrey son I brought home from Juliann Budde's at Little Country Acres. He has AWESOME fleece!

What do you think?

I haven't had the camera out in a long time. In fact it probably needs to charge. But I did find a cute pic of Emily to play with. Doesn't she look like she is watching over this blog?

I must really be a geeky tech. What do I do first when I finally have some time to post? I redesign my blog. Sorry but I had to. There were just too many blogger blogs out there that looked just like mine. It took some time but I finally found one I could make my own.

Breeding season is just around the corner here at Kimberwood. I have been planning and re-planning my breeding groups in anticipation of our 07 lambs. It won't be long and I'll be able to share it. ;-)

I am a Shetland addict. I am a wool addict. I am a yarn addict. I love to spin, knit and raise sheep. I am owned by Emily and Rabb, my Border Collies who love to help me with the sheep. When I'm not knitting, spinning or taking care of my sheep, I work from home designing websites and as a XanGo Independent Distributor.
