Shetland Sheep, Emily, Tru & Rabb our Border Collies,
and all my various knitting projects.

Emily loves to play ball. She gets so very intense when I have the ball in my hand and I thought I'd try to capture it. She had misplaced her squeaky balls and found them today under the couch. I've never seen her so happy to have them back. She likes to play with both at the same time by using her feet to move one around on the floor while she keeps the other one in her mouth squeaking it at the same time. We've decided she is the most spoiled dog. She has so many toys that we almost need a toy box for them. Of course she is the first dog we've had who actually likes to play with her toys. She is such a joy. Just now she brought her ball to me and layed it in my lap. I guess I will go play with her now......

See more of Emily here.

This weekend I attended a spinning retreat put on by the Northern Lights Spinning Guild. It was held at YMCA camp in Loretto, MN. There were about 25 or so women who attended and it offered some wonderful classes. It was wonderful to be able to get together with my friends Nancy, Becky, Angie and Gail as well as meeting so many wonderfully talented women in the Guild.

I worked on spinning some of my musket Shetland roving. I managed to fill two full bobbins of single ply and came home this afternoon to try out the bulky head that came with my Lendrum spinning wheel. I was able to ply both bobbins of single ply into a full 4 oz. skein of yarn. Up until this afternoon I've been limited to making 2 oz skeins.

Dark Pink Malabrigo and Rowan Kidsilk Haze

My next project from my shopping expedition last weekend begins with some hand warmers in this yummy yarn. I did a custom knitting job right before Christmas for a woman who brought me this kettle dyed yarn from Uraguay. It's Merino wool and is the softest wool I've worked with so far. And yes, I think it just might be a little softer than my Shetland wool! I've added some Kidsilk Haze to it so that it has just a hint of fuzz to it. I'm thinking I'll make a moebius to match. My office at work is usually very cold so I thought these would be great to keep me warm while there.

These two projects I think are great to switch back and forth from when my hands get tired. The different weights of yarn seem to work the muscles in my hands and arms differently and keeps me knitting longer.

Handwarmer

I've finished one of the handwarmers and am working on the next. I tried it out at work and it works!

Okay, so this got put on hold....too many projects, too little time!

JANUARY 25TH UPDATE!

Feather and Fan Pi Shawl

I am almost halfway thru the 190 rounds on my shawl now and thought it was time to post another picture. Even though I'm halfway through the rounds I know I still have more than half the shawl to knit. I last counted 512 stitches on the needles and with still many increases to go the rounds will take longer and longer to complete.

I'm really liking how this is knitting up and how it forms a bag to conveniently hold the current skein of yarn.

This weekend my good friend Nancy came for a visit and we went yarn shopping. We both found wonderful things to make! This is one of the projects I bought. It is a Pi shawl out of the book "A Gathering of Lace" by Meg Swansen. I am making it out of Rowan Kidsilk Night in a lovely shade of light gray.

I know, I know, why am I buying yarn when I have my own supply of Shetland wool? Well, for one thing I can't spin this fine of a yarn and the other is I couldn't resist this yarn. It's simply lovely.

Jan. 6
I've had to completely frog this shawl and start it over. I got to row 51 and had a little trouble understanding the chart but with Franna's help I made it through the row or so I thought until I got to row 53. At that point it was easier to start it over than try to figure out what went wrong so out it came.

Jan. 9 I'm back on track!!

Now, on to my Pi Shawl. I am still making progress on my shawl but it is definately slowing down. I took some pics today in attempt to show the progress I've made but decided it's very hard to get it to lay out well. It just looks like a big sack. Oh well, for what its worth here it is.

The one on the right shows the center motif well.

There are a total of 190 rounds on this shawl. I've completed 140 so far......
